Weekly Meeting
-
12th Meeting (4/14/2021)
This week we talked about the need of getting testing data into the report as quickly as possible as we were running out of time before the presentation. And were advised to continue working on the project in order to get that data in before the deadline. We were also reminded to pick a time for the senior design presentation.

11th Meeting (4/7/2021)
This week we talked about viewing our product from a customer viewpoint in order to anticipate how it functions. Likewise, we talked about how we needed to prepare for the questions the review team might have and to think about how our project as a whole will need to be tested with multiple videos streamed at the same time to show how our device works.
-
10th Meeting (3/31/2021)
This week we talked about the best ways to show the technical data for our project in chapter 3. We discussed a minimum of 10 trials for each function of the device. We also were advised to make a power consumption graph of the braille display. And to make a settings menu to possibly change text font or other settings.
-
9th Meeting (3/24/2021)
This week we talked about the possibility of contacting a deaf or blind person to volunteer in the testing of our project to give feedback. We also talked about the soldering problems on the glove where the soldered joints were snapping off and were advised to contact will goodman for advice.
-
8th Meeting (3/17/2021)
This week we went over our progress over the last 2 weeks and showed our completed pin mechanism with the springs we made. We got feedback saying we need to link together 3 video streams to show how the mechanism is working inside the box while we input a message to the main program to show how the device works while it shows the OLED and how we type the message. Also were advised to move necklace height to chest level and talked about possibly making the necklace box smaller but could not because of the need for the raspberry pi zero and other sensors.

7th Meeting (2/24/2021)
This week we did another zoom call with the professor and were told to update the professor on any changes we make to the senior design report as we need to start populating the technical details of our project with graphs and reading so our peers can conclude whether our project is a success. To this end we were told to look at similar design reports in the industry and see how similar products were measured in order to meet their design requirements in order to say if it fails or succeeds. We were also told to make changes to the power budget to make it look better anf to get rid of the pie chart of the budget and to add an actual budget with all the additional purchases we have made during the design section of the project

6th Meeting (2/17/2021)
This week we did another zoom call with the professor and we went over our pin mechanism which we got feedback where it might have been better to have multiple braille cells instead of one but explained we are unable to because the magnets we are using take up too much space to make more cells. We also went over how it is important to look over other similar projects to ours in the industry to compare to so we have a baseline of what to test for such as design goals.
-
5th Meeting (2/10/2021)
This week we did another zoom call with the professor and went over the engineering requirement table again and were recomended to create a table for the blind, deaf, and deaf-blind and to move the in general section of it into those 3 categories. We were also told to look into contacting a battery shop in order to find a smaller battery and so we could daisy chain another battery to the main one so we would have a backup while also allowing the first one to be replaceable, insteda of using a power bank. We were also told that it would be helpful to self critique our product in order to anticipate what kinds of questions we would be asked during the senior design presentation.
-
4th Meeting (2/2/2021)
This week we did another zoom call with the professor and went over engineering requirement table to include higher priorities and lower priorities. We also talked about finding an instrument to measure the pressure of the pin mechanism for our assistant box, and how the pins need to be at more of a right angle so they don't hit the side of the hole when they come up. Talked about the possibility of getting a 3d- printed box to fit a battery on the outside instead of inside if we couldn't fit everything together in a pre made box. We were also told to look at others devices like the MIT tactile device to our assistant box to see if our dimensions are smaller to what's on the market. And lastly we were told to make a work schedule to detail what each of us is trying to complete next week.
-
3rd Meeting (1/26/2021)
This week we did another zoom call with the professor and went over our new engineering requirement table where the professor said we have to change some grammar and English to make it read better. The professor then recommended us to look at a previous senior design project that did terrain manipulation with servo motors and to see if we could learn anything similar to that project to help ours. Lastly the professor recommended that we put together our electromagnets close together to see if the magnetic fields interfered with each other.
-
2nd Meeting (1/19/2021)
This week we did another zoom call with the professor and went over our first draft for our senior design report. Some of the feedback we got was that our engineering requirements needed to be shifted before the engineering specifications table and that instead of a long paragraph it needed to be succinct bullet points without any technical detail that could explain the design goals of our project and how they would be implemented. Next we asked advice from the professor on which option to choose for developing our pin mechanism, the 3 options being 3d-printing, switching from grove magnets to solenoids, or trying out a new pin mechanism design. The latter was chosen and we were told to email him updates when done testing and to also update him on our engineering requirements.

1st Meeting (1/15/2021)
This week we did a zoom call with the professor and discussed updates/changes to the syllabus and were told that the engineering requirement table would now be known as the engineering specification table and that engineering requirement would be used to explain how the goals of the project would be reached. We also updated the professor on the progress we made over the winter break and he gave us feedback on our project and told us who to contact in order to get our peer to peer connection to work between our 3 devices. Lastly he gave us advice on joining IEE to begin creating a career for ourselves in the international community of engineers.
